"there is just so much wrong"

To the Editor:

I have never written a letter to any editor, I have wanted to complain about so much but there is just so much wrong, where do you start. I'm not even going nation wide, our country is in such pain and going down so fast and I have just sat here doing nothing. As and example, in North Carolina a high school refused to raise the American Flag on 9-11 because it had Muslims enrolled in the school and didn't want to offend them. In our own state I read about a school principal in Kingston, Tn. that due to a ruling by the Supreme Court,  she could not have a prayer before the football game, to do so would be a violation of Federal Case Law.

Right here in our own Bradley County, we have a Sheriff that didn't get all the money he wanted so he is suing the very people that elected him into office. He said " I'm not suing the people, I'm suing the county." Who does he think the county is, who does he think is going to pay for his ridiculous actions? He appoints his own wife to a high paying job when he takes office. Then he gets embarrassed because so many people complained about it and he lets her go. He brings two people into office with him, "because they are so upright and loyal" then turns around and fires one of them because she wouldn't make inappropriate charges on the county visa card that was allotted to him. He wants more patrol cars, yet he has 71 officers that require a vehicle and 133 patrol cars in his inventory. Can't he count, sell 62 cars, buy the cars he says he needs. Then all your patrolmen would have nice new cars to drive. And don't get me wrong, I support our officers, I want to see them in good safe auto's, I want to know their wages are fair and up to state standards. I even support organizations that help take care of the officers families if they are injured. It's their boss and his actions that I have a problem with, not our diligent officers. A typical egotistical politician concerned with self advancement. And the worse part of it is, I voted for him. And yes, I am really concerned that after this letter he will make a sheriff car wait at the end of my road everyday when I leave home, that's the way these people work, they hold power over people's head so we keep our mouth shut.

But please, enough of that, let me tell you what did finally prompt me to write a letter to the editor. This past Saturday evening I attended a political fund raising dinner. I only bought a ticket because I know the mother of the wife of this political person. I didn't actually intend to go, but my dear husband said "If I'm paying $25.00 for a dinner, I'm going to eat something." So we went, and what a surprise, it restored my hope and faith for our county, maybe even our state. They were So Not "politically correct." They actually opened with prayer to the one and only true God. Then they really did stand, everyone there stood and put their hands over their hearts and faced the flag of the United States and said the Pledge of Allegiance. They had invited a group "The Singing Echoes" and they sang some Christian Songs and a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. I could have stood on the table and shouted "Thank you, there really are people out there that believe and feel like I do." I guess, like me, we just keep quiet because we don't think there 's anything we can really do. And anyway, no one will listen to us. The "Gobble's" of the world have taken over….. NO THEY HAVEN'T !!! Thank you Gary Davis for renewing my hope for Bradley County.

Carolyn Brown,
Charleston.
