It appears that the Kennedy influence on our government may finally be waning with the death of Edward Kennedy. I am sure his family misses him and they have my sympathy, but as for Kennedy influence on our government, good riddance. His son Patrick is a congressman from Rhode Island, but he has so much trouble staying sober that he is not likely to cause much trouble.
The Kennedy family has probably done more damage to this country than any family in history. The Kennedy philosophy of government is simple. Take money from working people and give it to those who don't work, so those you give money to will vote for you in the next election in the hope that you will give them more. It has been a successful political practice, but it has about ruined the country, especially since the government didn't have most of the money it gave away.
The chronic personal misbehavior of the various generations of the Kennedy clan shows a contempt for the moral values most of us live by. It appears that the Kennedy family is just white trash who had the good fortune to make a lot of money, some of it by questionable means, and used it to buy power. Unfortunately, their standards haven't increased along with their wealth. Of course, they find it politically useful to appear to be religious from time to time but the chronic adultery, drunkenness and drug use by various members of the family show that religion is just an act to them and they have no real interest in moral standards.
The Kennedy's have always had an anti-southern bias. Bobby Kennedy was unnecessarily harsh and mean in dealing with the south when he was Attorney General. Bobby Kennedy, Jr. filed a suit in North Carolina several years ago to try to put the state's hog farmers out of business to "protect the environment." Fortunately, the suit was thrown out of court, but it showed the hypocrisy of a family which claims to be for the working man it is trying to put hundreds of hard working farmers out of business.
Of course, the Kennedy's aren't the only politicians who are in business for their own power and benefit instead of the public good, so Kennedy's departure won't change much. Many of those in power at the moment appear perfectly willing to ruin the country for our children and grandchildren in order to increase government control over our lives. Since they are in charge of the government, that means that they personally gain control over our lives. The elite of the country consider it necessary to make all important decisions for us, since they don't consider us smart enough to make wise decisions for ourselves.
