Transformed by a beaming smile, this is the tiny face of a fetus just 17 weeks old.
The scan implies that a baby can experience feelings such as happiness and pain much earlier in its development than previously thought.
It will prompt further calls from doctors and campaigners to lower the upper abortion limit from 24 weeks.

The People News received a call the week of October 18th from a local resident who stated she and three other residents attempted to attend an open meeting of the Economic Development Council, but were denied entrance. The notification for this meeting was printed in the September 30, 2010 copy of the Cleveland Daily Banner. The notice read as follows:
"The Economic Development Council (EDC) of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce will hold its regular bimonthly meeting Thursday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. in the boardroom of the Chamber offices. The EDC executive committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. prior to the regular council meeting. Both meetings are open to the public. For more information, call 423-472-6587."
The resident, Diana Stanich, stated Doug Berry, head of Economic Development, closed the meeting and simply said the public was not allowed to attend.
The People News then called Berry, located at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, and questioned him to the reason of denying the public to a said public meeting. Berry stated the individuals were not denied entrance. He said the meetings were open to the public and the public was allowed to attend.
However, Berry stated he did go into executive session, under rights of the committee to enter into a closed meeting, in order to give a brief update regarding confidential business on prospect activity and business transactions and purchases.
