REALM OF REALITY

Harry Potter, Santa Clause, Scrooge and his Ghosts, Everyday People, It's Life.

by Toneeke Henderson

Recently in a small place in Georgia, a strange creature crawled out of the woods, no it wasn't the purple people eater it was a woman named Laura Mallory.

Why is Laura Mallory the only one trying to ban the books of Harry Potter from Gwinnett County Public Schools? In recent news it was stated that Ms Mallory felt the books were inappropriate for schools to have and spent a year trying to get them banned. We are not a Communist country, if someone doesn't want their children to read the books then don't let them, but life is life.

OK so the woman evidently wanted to be famous. So Laura Mallory, you now have had your 15 minutes of fame. Get a life first, and then enjoy it.

My word Santa has a sleigh and 8 reindeer, Scrooge had all his ghosts of Christmas past. The Lone Ranger had Trigger his horse, What about Ed the talking horse, oh maybe he was a wizard, right. Speaking of which, are you calling Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz a witch because of her involvement in the yellow brick road? Why, that is fighting words to me. That's my favorite movie and yes Laura, I am over 18 and under 99 so I can say what I want.

Geez woman, don't you know that everyday life happens. It is people with small minds that continuously place name tags on people and events. The Harry Potter series is like the Lone Ranger, they have their own tools in which they conquer evil and bad guys only to make life better for others.

Harry has a broom and a wand, a magic cloak, the Lone Ranger had his horse and a gun and mask, Dorothy had her dog, ruby slippers and a place called home. The books are about the encouragement of creativity, and understanding, to get a better grip on things.

Unless you have a house keeper Laura, remember you use a broom to sweep your floors, the very tool that Harry simply rides. Oh, his invisible cloak would be a wonderful thing to own, and then we could all sit back under it and watch you try to live under a cloak of Convenient Christianity and the ghosts of your past.

A true Christian would understand the concept of writing and creating a growing need for nurturing life's understandings. Why, I thought part of life was about not judging others. No, I am not judging you Miss Laura I am only stating flaws of a misdirected soul who needs to get a psychological grip on life.

I would never restrict my child from the imaginations of childhood, Laura are you a brain surgeon because that is the only way you will be able to keep the imagination out of your child, is to remove it medically. Don't lock your children up in a castle where no outsider will ever have contact with them, this is not the Salem witch hunt days, it is a time of gifted individuals who can give to the world an opportunity to be creative and to spark new intelligence and pull out the genius in a lot of children and some adults as well.

If you want to complain, then write your views in a book and try to sell it and see if there is enough whinny under developed souls who would want to waste their time downing the wonderful gift of creativity and imagination that GOD gave to all of us. Maybe if you ate more oatmeal it would open up your mind ... after all it is a brain food.

Harry Potter is a hero just like all the other legends and heroes in the world of life, just like one of my favorites, John Wayne, I can hear him now saying "sister, you better come on up out of that hole, before you get bit."

To sum this up I can only say; Laura there is a light at the end of the tunnel if you take those blinders off, believe in something magical because life is that way, no matter what you wave, what you ride or what cloaks you, one will always have the freedom to be themselves because they can be, and your children will grow up to be themselves regardless of how you may try to bind them from life.

And when all else fails, then do like I do, Start the New Year out by dancing naked under the moon at midnight to experience true magic, I'll see ya there.
