Tea Party 2012

by Alexandra Edwards

Though November is time when people are preoccupied with preparations for the upcoming holidays, it is important to remember that the 2012 57th quadrennial United States Presidential Elections are just around the corner. Many people are thinking, yeah but that's not until next fall, why worry about that now. Waiting until next November to decide which way you vote is way too late. Now is the time to start paying great attention to what is happening around the nation.

For many years this wonderful country has constantly given its citizens a quality of life that has been the envy of the world. Many lives have been lost fighting to preserve the freedoms given to us in the constitution. However, during the past few years government has made, and is still trying to make, negative changes to our freedoms that surely must be causing our founding fathers to turn in their graves.

Alexandra Edwards

Both Republican and Democrat leadership have had their chance at running this country for the past eight years but neither seem to be doing their job of representing the 'people' of the United States. The people, meaning the majority of ordinary American citizens in all fifty states.

Until more recently, people felt they had no voice other than at the polls, but today, mainly because of the Internet and perhaps talk radio, citizens have realized that others do share their views and opinions. Thirteen years ago when this newspaper was first published in print and distributed around the community, we were inundated with calls from readers that were so relieved to have the opportunity to read the other side of the story. Many readers were surprised how they shared the same opinions of the newspaper, realizing they no longer stood alone in their thoughts. Thankfully, today there are numerous sources of conservative views in print, on the Internet, over the airways and more amazingly, on network television. People no longer have to be brainwashed by the once very dominant liberal media.

Citizens who really care about American values, traditions, rights and freedoms and everything else that make this country so unique, now is the time you can get involved.

Over the past three years the Tea Party organization has grown rapidly, with groups forming in numerous counties of every state. Tea Party groups are made up of ordinary folk just like you who truly care about America as a whole and not what they themselves can get out of it. They are people who are no longer satisfied with business as usual politicians in a rapidly growing government. Obviously, the growth of the Tea Party has caused the liberal media to panic, doing all they can to discredit the organization by portraying them as republican right wing trouble makers.

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. They are people made up of all races, all nationalities blue collar, white collar and include republicans, democrats, libertarians and some with no political preference. Simply put, they are just patriotic law abiding American citizens who are feeling enough is enough and expect their government to represent them in the way they were elected to do according to the U.S. Constitution.

Tea Party Rallies like the one held in Washington D.C. on August 28, 2010 organized by Glen Beck, former commentator of Fox News, drew 500,000 people from all across the nation. According to Beck, despite the large crowds gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, the Restoring Honor rally was a very peaceful family event where people sang patriotic songs while waving the stars and stripes. Beck also made a comparison of the absolute lack of litter the day following the rally to that left by the crowds at Barack Obama's inauguration.

However, not surprisingly, while surfing the Internet for research on the 2010 Washington rally and the Tea Party, liberal media dominated the first pages with negative reports criticizing Beck for holding the rally on the same date and same location that Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his historical "I have a dream" speech 47 years ago! For some reason, such terms as activists, extremists, radicals, right wing fanatics, religious right, hillbilly and even racist are words that seem to frequent the liberal vocabulary when discussing the Tea Party.

Mirrored on the famous Boston Tea Party of 1773, some say the beginning of the Tea Party Movement began on January 19, 2009, when a blogger on tickerforum.org going by the name of Gmak challenged the public to mail a tea bag to Congress and Senate. Others credit Karl Denninger of the Market Ticker for an article posted on the Internet that went viral titled Tea Party February 1st. While it is also claimed that it was Ron Paul's' 2007 presidential campaign, held on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, where over 6 million dollars was raised in one day, that gave birth to the Tea Party Movement.

Whoever it was that started the ball rolling for a national Tea Party, it has proved to be a true voice of the people, by the people and for the people, which is why it is continuing to grow so rapidly.

For those who truly care about traditional American conservative values and want to see this country back on its feet again, now is the time to listen, learn, and speak out.

During the mid term elections last year, despite the Tea Party organization being relatively new, several Tea Party candidates managed to win seats in Congress and the Senate, which is a start, hopefully during the elections of 2012 there could be many more.
