Why Should I Vote?
Letter to the Editor:
I would like to see everyone get out to vote for the mid-term elections, especially you, the reader. Why does this matter to me, you may ask? It matters. It matters a great deal to have people, in our congress working for us.
For two years now, a group of congress people haven't been earning their paychecks from the American people. Bottom line, they haven't been doing their jobs, but still expect to get reelected and retake Congress. Are you going to be led like sheep by their lies, by their bullying, their irresponsible behavior, and by their campaign ads?
Have you ever asked yourselves, WHY? Why does this group of people have to force their way into Congress by lying, bullying, and cheating? If their party is for the American people, then the American people would see benefits from their legislation. What benefits have you seen from them in the past two years? The only thing I have seen, along with you, is the word "NO." I haven't seen legislation coming from their hands solving any of our problems. I haven't seen them working hand in hand with the other party that has put forth legislation and solutions. I haven't seen them do a thing to earn their paychecks. Why not fire them, just like you have been let go. Why not see them lose their comfy homes, just like you have lost yours. Why not see them standing in line for food stamps, just like you? Why are they so special that these hard times shouldn't affect them, when they do you?
I don't think the American voter is a sheep. I don't think you will sucumb to the continual "scare tactics" of the Republican Party. I don't think you are blind and won't "see" through the strategies of the Republican Party. Have you noticed gas prices have risen without a reason? But there is a reason; if gas hikes up, then you will be less likely to use what you have to show up at the polls. A strategy. Have you noticed all the bullying and mis-information ads on your TV set? Those strategies are the same ones our children in our schools would be punished for committing. Name calling, slander, telling lies. Good example for your children, isn't it? And yet, there will be some people who think this is okay, and they will call you a bleeding heart liberal, democrat for caring about having morals.
If you were to read the ten commandments, you would find a document with guidelines that all people across the world could live comfortably with. Do you remember those guidelines? Don't lie, don't steal, don't kill, respect each other, and I think those are very good guidelines. I would look at each candidate, just like you, and ask, "What have you done for me in the past two years?" I would ask, just like you, "Have you LIED to me? Are you STEALING from me? Do you show me RESPECT? Is what you are doing, going to KILL me and my children?" Those are the questions you and I need to ask those people we are HIRING to do our business in Congress.
If you think, like I do, that the political organizations are putting on a three ring circus, you are right. You are right in thinking that in ring one, you are being bombarded with scare tactics. In ring two, you are being bombarded with TV campaign ads that are slanderous and morally wrong. In ring three, you see candidates lie to you, then laugh about it and try to act like it doesn't matter anymore. You and I know better, it still matters. It matters to the American, who still believes in being a worthy human being on this planet. It matters to the American, who still wants to live in a world with trust, honesty, and compassion for each other. It matters to the American, who wants his children to have a society that isn't based on greed, lies, and corruption.
So let me ask you, in the past two years, which candidate accomplished something to earn their paychecks? Which candidate did something that directly affected your personal situation? Which candidate treated you with respect and honesty? Which candidate is not a bully nor uses scare tactics to get your vote? That is the one who gets my vote and the one I hope gets your vote.
See you at the voting precincts on November 2, 2010.
