Where Has Common Sense Gone?
Letter to the Editor:
Where has common sense gone? In a time of financial strife our local representatives have decided to raise sales tax and property taxes? Is this really in the best interest of those living in our community?
Am I wrong in believing that businesses are closing their doors from loss of sales, consumers are losing their income and homes, and yet in the great wisdom of those who lead us, they should raise sales tax and property taxes? Wouldn't our community be better served by people with a common sense approach to a problem, such as ours? Or is there an underlying motive to raising these two taxes?
Raising sales taxes will force people with little income to move elsewhere. Raising property taxes will force mortgage lenders to lower prices on foreclosed properties, just to get them off their books. Ask yourself who would profit from these two taxes, the little guy or the guy with the bucks, who wants something for practically nothing?
We are seeing a re-distribution of wealth, but not in the way it is touted by the media. We are not seeing the little guy gain a thing, other than more severe poverty, but we are seeing those with wealth continuing to profit during these hard times.
So why do you think taxes are being raised? Do you really think this will improve your way of life, or put that last nail in your coffin? When re-election comes due, remember who was there to help lift you up, or who was there to take you down.
