Eee-Arrr

It is surprising that Bradley Memorial Hospital Board members would become so unglued at the mere mention of competition. It was my understanding that the beauty of the US capitalist system is that competition promotes greatness and that only in eastern block countries did they see it as a bad thing- and we know how great they are over there. Dr. Chip Kyle and some of his medical buddies wanted to install a state of-the-art medical imaging device at a private clinic in Cleveland to compete with BMH for patients. Please, can someone tell me why that would be bad for the community? If BMH is as good a hospital as we are told, then how could these guys so easily steal their business. Surely BMH has more faith in itself. Apparently the board would rather play politics and protectionism than expend their efforts on improving medical services to the point that competition would not present a threat.

Competition is good. We all benefit when the best man wins on an even playing field.

McKenzie update

Steve (Toby) McKenzie has decided to appeal his DUI arrest to the Tennessee Supreme Court. Just thought you would like to know. Its your money that's paying for it.

Lott-o BS

Remember when the lottery, savior of the Tennessee education system was brought for your approval. Remember its proponents said that there would never be gambling casinos. The first lotto tickets haven't yet hit the recycling shredder and a casino is being planned in Memphis.

Someone once said, "slippery slope, its a slippery slope I tell you."

Foreign AIDS

An AP story that appeared in the Cleveland Daily Banner, Feb 23rd, caught my attention- "Nigerian state says it will reject polio vaccine" was the headline. Kano, a northern state in the African country of Nigeria has refused to participate in a worldwide effort to stamp out polio because they said it was a U.S. plot to spread AIDS and infertility among Muslims (Nigeria's north is predominately Muslim.) They said that their scientists had discovered contaminates in the oral polio vaccine and until their medical experts considered it safe they would not use it.

Our country has done... is doing and will do dastardly things in the name of protecting US interest but surely we couldn't sink that low? Either there is no truth in the accusations or there is. Presuming there is no truth in the story, then the people of Kano see us as monsters capable of anything. They would rather risk the health of their children than trust us.

For-Gore-Tenn

The People News
has some great writers. They teach me, they amuse me and please me. Every month at least one of them hits a point home that otherwise would have slipped by me. This month Mel Griffith hit the nail on the head while describing his view of the Democratic Primary. Staunch Demo's nationally, whined continuously that Al Gore was robbed of the Presidency and what a loss it was to the nation that "W" was in the Whitehouse. If Al Gore was such a gem and really won the election, how come the Democrats didn't field him this time? Surely history would have righted itself with a landslide. No, the Demo's were doing what they do best- whine- but when the contender for Bush was chosen, they knew Gore would lose- again,  so in true liberal fashion they forget the years of rhetoric, pretended Gore had never existed and went about choosing someone else they can whine about when he loses.

Bush ain't perfect and didn't invent the internet but he looks great when compared to his opponents, And Gore.. he's left the building.... at last.

Tough Gays

It's difficult to turn on the television these days without seeing homosexual actors and actresses portraying characters that leave no doubt as to their sexual orientation. Even off screen there is no doubt. Today it is popular to flaunt homosexuality in every aspect of life... Gays are now welcomed in the military after demanding equal treatment. Gays now have special rights not afforded heterosexuals.

I have been watching events unfold in Iraq. Servicemen and women laying their lives on the line for us. Strangely though, I have yet to see an openly gay soldier on the front line. I'm not saying they are not there of course, but what happened to all the homosexuals that demanded the privilege. The ones we saw on TV with the mincing walk. The ones with the annoying homosexual voices and droopy mustaches- I haven't seen any of those lying in the Iraqi dust.

Before I get bombarded with calls and mail about my insensitivity towards homosexuals, let me say that I have no interest in how people get their sexual fulfillment but if we are going to have gays in the military and equal rights, I expect to see them on the front line... mincing their way into battle alongside heterosexuals.

I can't be more supportive of the gay movement than that, can I.
