The Tennessee Mockingbird

Which Religion?

by June Griffin

In the confusion about the First Amendment, there has come about an all-out attack on the "faith of our fathers." Law schools have misinformed their students, willingly or out of ignorance, whichever they choose to hide under. Such would rather be classified as ignorant rather than incompetent, so we will be charitable and say they are ignorant. For now.

In his excellent internet newsletter, "The Wake-Up Herald," of May 1, 2010, Rev. Bob McCurry truthfully brings out facts of our Bible heritage. Like facts are now exploding all over the air waves and students and patriots are seeing, like Noah's family after the flood, the tops of the mountains appearing. Those who hate our heritage are tearing their hair, wishing it weren't so. It won't work. Not liking the truth is one thing; denying it is quite another. Hear this faithful Patriot Pastor. He calls for us to renew our heritage.

"Renew (v). 1: to make or become new, fresh, or strong again 2: to restore to existence: recreate, revive 3: to make or do again 4: repeat, to begin again; resume."

June Griffin

The need for biblical spiritual renewal to restore the true biblical sovereign God to His rightful place comes at a time of extreme peril and crisis for America, our families, and the Lord's Church. The enemy is not coming. The enemy is here. Alas! The nation has long since passed flood stage in moral and political decadence. Why?

Isaiah 30:8-11 speaks to this day:

"Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: 9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: 10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: 11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."

Sadly and unfortunately the sovereign biblical Jehovah God and His Word are no longer considered applicable in this postmodern age; that is, 'applying or capable of being applied; relevant; suitable; appropriate: an applicable rule; a solution that is applicable to the problem.' But it has not always been this way. For instance, previous generations never questioned the use of and reliance on the Ten Commandments; rather they heartily endorsed their use. For example:

"The law given from Sinai was a civil and municipal as well as a moral and religious code... laws essential to the existence of men in society and most of which have been enacted by every nation which ever professed any code of laws."
-John Quincy Adams

"If 'Thou shalt not covet,' and 'Thou shalt not steal,' were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free."
-John Adams

In an even broader affirmation, several Founders of America declared that not just the Ten Commandments, but also Biblical principles in general were inseparable from law and society. For example:

"[L]aw, natural or revealed, made for men or for nations, flows from the same Divine source: it is the law of God... Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is Divine... Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistants. Indeed, these two sciences run into each other."
-James Wilson, Signer of the Constitution, U.S. Supreme Court Justice

"All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible."
-Noah Webster

But things have changed. In an April 24, 2010, news article, Jim Daly is certain there is "a right way and a wrong way" to live one's life and it's all about Jesus Christ and a literal reading of the Bible. But the new leader of the evangelical ministry Focus on the Family isn't going to get in your face if you disagree. "We don't want a theocracy. We want a government informed in moral principle." (Emphasis added) Let's take a close look at his statement word by word.

Theocracy = n. 1. The rule of a state by God or a god. 2. Government by a person or persons claiming to rule with divine authority. 3. A country governed in this way.

Informed = adj. 1. Having enough information to understand something: having sufficient and sufficiently reliable information or knowledge to be able to understand a subject or situation and make appropriate judgments or decisions regarding it.

Moral = adj. 1. of, pertaining to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong; ethical: 5. conforming to the rules of right conduct: a moral man. 6. virtuous in sexual matters; chaste.

Principle = n. 1. an accepted or professed rule of action or conduct: 2. a fundamental, primary, or general law or truth from which others are derived: 3. a fundamental doctrine or tenet.

When Jim Daley says, "We don't want a theocracy" he is actually saying, "We don't want a 'God ruled' nation." An understandable statement if made by an atheist or non-Christian, but a stunning statement coming from a 'Christian' and leader of a 'Christian' organization, especially since the Bible declares in Psalm 33:12: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD." Why doesn't Jim Daley want the true biblical LORD God to be the LORD God of America? Sadly, his statement is now common among many pastors and Para church leaders.

Interestingly, Jim Daley doesn't identify who/what 'authoritative source' he would want his version of an 'informed government' to use to determine the 'principle of 'morality' for the nation. Why not rely on the true LORD God of the Bible as the authoritative source since "The law of the LORD is perfect" (Ps 19:7). How can 'perfect' be improved? It can't; "For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth" (Ps 33:4); "For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven" (Ps 119:89).

Take your pick. America will be governed by the biblical sovereign LORD God and His Word or by man-centered 'humanism.'

Humanism = n. an autonomous man-centered 'I am a god' religion that began in the Garden of Eden.
In 1933 the American Humanist Association declared in their Humanist Manifesto I that 'Humanism is a religion.' In 1961, the U.S. Supreme Court acknowledged that Secular Humanism was a religion.

The 1973 Humanist Manifest II states:

As in 1933, humanists still believe that traditional theism, especially faith in the prayer-hearing God, assumed to live and care for persons, to hear and understand their prayers, and to be able to do something about them, is an unproved and outmoded faith. Salvationism, based on mere affirmation, still appears as harmful, diverting people with false hopes of heaven hereafter. Reasonable minds look to other means for survival.

We believe, however, that traditional dogmatic or authoritarian religions that place revelation, God, ritual, or creed above human needs and experience do a disservice to the human species.

September/October 1973 issue of The Humanist magazine by the American Humanist Association.

The 'Religion of Humanism' is now the leading 'religion' in postmodern American that influences and controls politics and the three branches of government. Its primary agenda is to eliminate from the public arena any and all reference to the Bible, prayer in Jesus name, and God's Law. This agenda continues to advance with amazing speed and success thanks to silent, inert pastors and 'Christians' who are content with their 'bless me meetings.'

"Law is in every culture religious in origin. Because law governs man and society, because it establishes and declares the meaning of justice and righteousness, law is inescapably religious, in that it establishes in practical fashion the ultimate concerns of a culture. Accordingly, a fundamental and necessary premise in any and every study of law must be, first, recognition of this religious nature of law.

Second, it must be recognized that in any culture the source of law is the god of that society. If law has its source in man's reason, then reason is the god of that society. If the source is an oligarchy, or in a court, senate, or ruler, then that source is the god of that system.

Modern humanism, the religion of the state, locates law in the state and thus makes the state or the people as they find expression in the state, the god of the system.

Third, in any society, any change of law is an explicit or implicit change of religion.

Nothing more clearly reveals, in fact, the religious change in a society than a legal revolution. When the legal foundations shift from Biblical law to humanism, it means that the society now draws its vitality and power from humanism, not from Christian theism."

The Institutes of Biblical Law by Rousas John Rushdoony pp. 4-5

Sadly and unfortunately, many pastors and 'Christians' have either denied, forgotten, ignored, displaced, or replaced the true sovereign God of the Bible with a pseudo sovereign 'god' they have contrived with the figment of their imagination; God's Law is denied or ignored and replaced with man's 'opinions' of right and wrong.

Remember this. We will be governed either by 1) the Word of the sovereign God of the Bible, 2) government enacted 'laws,' 3) our own self-designed 'law,' or 4) the 'law of the jungle.' Alas! Many have chosen to do that which is right in their own eyes (Judges 17:6). But God warns, "Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!" (Isa 5:21). Obviously, government enacted 'laws' and man's own self-designed 'laws' have failed. Sadly, the 'law of the jungle' has become the paramount law of America.

Wake-up, Pastors! Wake-up, Christians!"

This faithful pastor has admonished his peers to wake up. You can be sure we are awake: are you, Pastor?
