Another legal baffoon

We are plagued with crazy judges. Judges that are ruling on political correctness and to protect a failing law enforcement strategy. Judges who's ruling will have a profound effect on the way the American public views the fairness of the court system. Judges who are betraying their oath to uphold the law in an impartial way. In April of 2000, immigration agents dressed in military armor raided a house in Miami to forcibly seize 6 year old Elian Gonzalez who the U.S. Government wanted to send back to Cuba. During the raid, peaceful demonstrators and journalists were beaten and sprayed with tear gas. Some bystanders were gassed at close range while standing alone in their own fenced yards. 13 people sued the government for the injuries they received but a judge in a non jury trial ruled against them. U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore issued a 19 page decision saying that the demonstrators and bystanders failed to show enough credible evidence that the federal officers use of force during the raid was unreasonable under the circumstances.
Most of us saw pictures of the raid showing storm troopers armed with machine guns conducting a military operation against unarmed civilians. It was remarkable people were not killed in the ill-conceived raid. The raid, a sad reflection on American law enforcement was bad enough but the biased and unjust ruling of Judge Moore was far worse. The government of the United States spends billions of dollars trying to portray America as a fair and just nation when the actions of a judge like Moore shows otherwise. This whole case does nothing but bring shame on us all.

Me,me,me.

So the rich and famous living around Hardwick Field are for constructing a new airport so long as it is in someone else's yard - surprise, surprise. And now the residents living in the Royal Oaks Subdivision on Michigan Avenue, are faced with the possibility that it might be put at their front door - now they are screaming. Surprise, surprise. These were the folks who insisted that the county adopt countywide zoning to protect their subdivision even though they knew most people in the county were against it. Now no doubt, they will seek the help of county residents to help them out and show support. Normally I support the citizen's right to control government actions that effect them but it is awfully difficult not to say "let zoning protect you" and laugh as executive jets scream over their homes. In this case though I'm going to be true to myself and support their right to reject an airport in their neighborhood. The answer is obvious. As only a very small minority actually want a new airport, the fed-up and disenfranchised majority should start petitioning their elected leaders and the Airport Authority to close Hardwick Field for good and turn it into a park that everyone will support and enjoy. It will be less expensive too.
