WWJD? What Would Jesus Do? This question is circulating through the county and community pertaining to illegal immigrants. What would Jesus do about illegal immigrants? Folks that oppose instant amnesty for illegal immigrants are being slammed by other community neighbors for being "sinful" in their attitudes toward illegal immigrants. You can read WWJD comments in other local papers or on line at local web sites. It just so happens that I oppose blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants. With the first WWJD article/post; the condition of my heart/faith became an issue. So I asked myself, WWJD. I am still considering the possibilities of WWJD.
A week or two ago, in a volunteer situation, I dealt with an Hispanic immigrant lady.
She could not count money. She could speak no English. She was very nervous and showed fear. I treated her with respect. I watched her carefully throughout the evening. I'm going to assume that most immigrants, legal or illegal, live under a blanket of fear. The bulk of the blanket would be comprised of fear of deportation. I had just read the first of the WWJD tirades. So I watched this lady and I considered her plight. I considered the hundreds that were going to die of starvation in North Korea that day.
I considered the slave labor going on in China that day. I wondered how many orphans were being created in civil war torn Africa that day. My mind went through a litany of different countries and their ills. Not one person asked to be born in any of those countries. But for whatever purposes that God has; people were and are born in those countries daily. No one chooses the country, the gender or the race that they will be born with. WWJD? Then I considered the millions across the world that are desperate to cross over onto United States soil. I considered those going through the channels of proper procedure and law that have been waiting a decade or much longer. They sit and they wait...... for their VISA's and Green Cards. While the USA receives an influx of illegal immigrants daily that have border access. Is it fair that those that have access to the border are given amnesty as opposed to those waiting in line across the oceans? WWJD? What if some teenager became pregnant and cried out to the Lord for help? Would the Lord send this person to the nearest clinic to terminate the pregnancy? If an armed robber went into a 7-11 and held it up at gun point and ten minutes later realized that it was a bad idea and cried out to the Lord; is it that the Lord would help that person by making the past few minutes or life disappear? We can do this over and over and in a blue dozen different scenarios. WWJD?
Why are people born in different countries of different races and different sexes? I do not know. I do know that all the population of the world cannot fit inside of the USA. Why or how is it fair for only border crossers to have amnesty? I think that if I were a Hispanic illegal immigrant and that I cried out for help...... that the help that I got might not be the fix that I wanted. There is that troublesome little verse that says, "obey the laws of the land." WWJD?
WWJD? Would he change the laws of America in favor of blanket amnesty for those with the ability to sneak across the border while ignoring the fervent prayers, cries and pleas to him from humanity across the world that have been waiting years and years to get into America? Would he show such favoritism? Would he ignore the slaves, the starving and the orphans to grant amnesty to one group of people? Are we to assume that Jesus will allow the rest of humanity to languish and die in horrid conditions while this one select group garners favor?
It is not the fault of the illegal immigrants that our country has chosen to ignore it's own laws. It is, (to the best of my knowledge), illegal to hire an illegal immigrant. It is also, (to the best of my knowledge), illegal to rent to an illegal immigrant. Would renting to them not be akin to harboring a fugitive? It is our money brokers, local and national, who are responsible for our influx of illegal immigrants. It is the fault of Jane and John Doe taxpayers for allowing this influx of illegal immigrants. Why do we the tax payers allow our local governments, city and county, to put our tax dollars into such things as the Multi Cultural center? Why do we allow our tax dollars to support anything at all that supports illegal immigration? Why do we vote for people that will not take an active stance to the law. WWJD?
WWJD? Would he be rude or unkind to any human? No. But would he grant illegal jobs, illegal housing, etc.? Not if it's illegal he wouldn't. Would he show favoritism and disregard for all the rest of the pleas for citizenship in the USA that echo from all the world for just one select group? No. I didn't write the Bible. I can't say for certain WWJD in any particular situation. However, my opinion counts when the condition of my heart is called into question. If the laws could be bent, (actually they're being broken every hour), I would opt to give that fearful lady that I met a few weeks ago citizenship. But I also have seen some hard praying orphans that I'd like to give citizenship too that are absolutely unable to cross the border. We'll never consider the orphans, we'll never consider the starving in North Korea, we'll never consider the slaves across the world. We will only consider those that illegally cross the border to become blanket amnesty citizens of America. This is not fair. This sets a bad precedent. In all that I know and I do not know I am certain that the one thing that JWD is to be fair.
