The Tennessee Mockingbird

IRS Defeat in 1978

by June Griffin

In December of 1978, 1300 people from all across the United States, whose private schools and churches were under the 501-c-3 umbrella, rose up and went to Washington.

The challenge from the IRS - the Citadel of Thievery - was to force these schools to accept sodomites or lose their tax exemption.

For four days, IRS head Jerome Kurtz and his lawyers, heard the vehemence of Jehovah thunder with the words: Leave us alone! And while the thrust was primarily against Christian schools, other private schools who saw the threat to their own existence, also came along, and resisted this evil. These hearings are chronicled in a very thick book by the title: The Voice of Christian and Jewish Dissenters in America. U.S. Internal Revenue Service Hearings on Proposed 'Discrimination' tax controls over Christian, Jewish and Secular Private Schools, December 5, 6, 7, 8, 1978.

I was privileged to testify before this august body of usurpers both at the beginning and the end of these hearings. These hearings were first held in the Commerce Building auditorium and then moved into the IRS building to finish off four days of resistance from these Dissenters. The first day there was a dozen or so members of Congress who were slated to kick off the hearings. One after another, weak-kneed politicians bowed and scraped in their little speeches, hoping for some compassion and a listening ear from this proud, out-of-control Agency. Sitting and hearing these little speeches, I was appalled. The Spirit of God moved upon me and I stood to my feet in the middle of the audience. Inserted below is the record in the book. (p. 492)

Here is the exact quotation from the book, although this is somewhat edited.

MRS. PEGGY JUNE GRIFFIN, EVANSVILLE, (Evensville), TENN.

Chairman Winborne: Do we have any more Members of Congress who would like to speak at this time? If we do not, I think since several members apparently have been delayed in some way, that we should take a short recess during which I would ask if there--

Mrs. Griffin (interrupting):
Will we have an opportunity to ask questions of the Congressmen before they have to go back?

Chairman Winborne:
I beg your pardon; I didn't understand you,. Are you scheduled to speak?

Mrs. Griffin:
I'm scheduled to speak Friday, but I doubt there will be everyone here, and I -

Chairman Winborne:
Does anybody in the audience have an objection if she takes a few minutes at this point in time? (No response.)* No objection: please come forth if you like. Will this be your testimony? You will speak again on Friday or not?

Mrs. Griffin:
I will speak again on Friday.

Chairman Winborne:
You will? Please identify yourself.

Mrs. Griffin:
My name is June Griffin, and I'm a taxpayer from Evansville, Tennessee. I got the feeling that Congress is asking these men permission to do this and that. We do not want this proposal ground through the mills of compromise. We want it buried. And the authority that these men have assumed as the law of this land must be buried. We have had it. I know that I speak for the Christians in my area, that we must go back to the law of the land that was established by our forefathers. These men do not have the rightful authority to tell us how to run our schools, our homes, and our churches. Thank you. (Tues . a.m. Dec. 8.)"

As I walked down from the podium, one Congressman after another reached out, during the thunderous applause and said: Thank you, Mrs. Griffin, Thank you. They recognized there was a fire lit which would not go out. Many powerful voices from the finest of pastors and school heads followed this introduction in righteous indignation.

*There was no response from the panel, but the entire audience began to cry: "Go up! Go on up!"

My testimony at the end of the sessions is more lengthy and is recorded on Page 493 and 494.

The purpose of writing this testimony is to give glory to God and His Spirit, by which the IRS was soundly defeated.

It is notable that though there are literally thousands of 501-C-3 organizations, this is the only time that those covered by the treachery of the IRS and its 501-C-3 Draconian restrictions had the courage to resist the IRS and its tyranny. Others cower fearfully and try to pacify these tyrants, fearing to make them mad.

If there is history for other such resistance, I haven't heard of it. It was the Spirit of God which was poured out to dissent from despotism and extortion! This same Spirit who led Washington to move on Valley Forge also moved across this nation to raise up the Tea Party!

It is written: Touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm!

You media and bogus Democrats and Republicans who hate the Tea Party are tampering with One Bigger than you. These citizens represent the Arm of God, WE THE PEOPLE, who, without apparent leadership or control, shout once again: LEAVE US ALONE! Many, though ignorant of the American Covenant, yet benefit by the words of the ancient American Promise and conditions of II Chronicles 7:14.

As for those of you who cower, fearful to speak up, afraid of losing your tax exemption, take note of this testimony, recorded in 591 pages. Patriotic organizations like the DAR and American Legion, both to which I pay dues, are built on firm foundations. In that Day at the Great White Throne of Judgment, when we are called to give an account of the deeds done in body - what will He say to you? Will He not require of you an answer to the admonition of Theodore Roosevelt, Fear God and Take Your Own Part.

You have great foundations, I say. If any man build on this foundation wood, hay and stubble, the day of fire will reveal it. For all such stubble will be burnt up, but the elements will be saved: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND THE BILL OF RIGHTS.

And all the people said: AMEN.

.

controversy...."
